Founder’s Story
Blaise Lolika was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country that has endured decades of conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crises that have disproportionately affected women and children.
Early in his life and career, he worked in healthcare, supporting mothers, children, and families in communities facing extreme hardship. Through this work, he witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of conflict on maternal health, child survival, and family stability. Many women lacked access to even the most basic medical care, and countless children were left vulnerable due to violence, poverty, and displacement.
These experiences left a lasting impression on him and planted the seeds of a lifelong mission: to stand alongside the most vulnerable and help restore dignity, safety, and opportunity for those whose voices are often unheard.
In 2000, as violence intensified in the region, Blaise and his family were forced to leave their homeland and seek safety in the United States, eventually settling in Tucson, Arizona. While rebuilding his life in a new country, he continued working in healthcare and deepening his understanding of global health systems and community resilience.
However, even as he built a new life, his thoughts remained with the communities he had left behind—particularly the women and children who continued to face the daily realities of conflict, displacement, and poverty.
Driven by this enduring commitment, he founded Global Assistance for Women & Children, Inc. (GAWC). GAWC was created with a clear mission: to provide life-saving assistance, protection, and opportunities for women and children affected by conflict and humanitarian crises.
Today, the organization focuses its efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where communities continue to struggle with the consequences of armed conflict, fragile health systems, food insecurity, and widespread poverty. Through partnerships with local communities, health facilities, and international supporters, GAWC works to deliver critical support in areas such as: maternal and child health nutrition and food assistance protection of women and children psychosocial support access to basic services for displaced and vulnerable families
At the heart of GAWC’s work is a simple but powerful belief: every woman and every child deserves the chance to live with dignity, safety, and hope for the future. For Blaise Lolika, GAWC represents more than an organization. It is the continuation of a promise—to ensure that the suffering he witnessed is met not with silence, but with action, compassion, and global solidarity.
